The Legacy of #380forever

At this writing, +Mr. V8 380/6, who was born on March 10th, 2006, has 835 progeny registered with ABBA. Fifteen years later, the Williams family continues to breed flush cows to “380”, who passed away on April 30, 2019. In fact, his influence is so strong, the Williams family started a movement on Instagram with the hashtag #380forever. To date, more than 1000 photos with this hashtag have been posted around the world, paying homage to the influence this bull has had on the Brahman breed.

380 is no stranger to titles. He is a 3-time National Champion Get of Sire and a 4-time International Champion Get of Sire. Additionally, he has sired twelve National and/or International Grand Champions.

The Brahman Journal designated +Mr. V8 380/6 “#1 Sire of Champions for eight consecutive years (2011-2018). Now, being recognized as the top gray bull for lifetime production is the ultimate achievement.

Jim Williams’ #1 Gray Brahman Bull

In this video, an emotional Jim Williams says: “It’s a great honor” for V8 Ranch, the Williams family, and many others. He lists show barn workers, those who have presented and shown 380’s cattle, and breeders who invested in semen from +Mr. V8 380/6.

Although Jim Williams is quick to credit others, the rest of the Williams family says all the credit for +Mr. V8 380/6 goes to Jim. 380 is “his” bull, after all.  When he was calved, Jim announced that 380 would be great. Jim continued to predict 380’s tremendous influence and impact even though he looked nothing like other bulls that were showing at the time. The family joked that Jim loved +Mr. V8 380/6 like his own son. Nowadays, the family no longer questions Jim’s visionary thinking. In fact, just recently, while Jim and his daughter observed a wet calf, Jim announced: “We’ll breed her to 380.”

Following in Their Hoof-steps

As ABBA’s #1 gray Brahman bull, +Mr. V8 380/6 picks up the mantle from another V8 superstar, +WR Mr. Suva 203. Calved in May 1977, Suva was syndicated, meaning top breeders had a breeding interest in him. Consequently, Suva sired a long list of famous sons and daughters including +Mr. V8 883/2, and two V8 cow family matriarchs: +Miss V8 4/5 and +Ms. Claydesta 203-807U5. Suva held the #1 bull title for over 36 years. Prior to Suva’s reign, Sugarland’s Rex Crata 1 held the title for 14 years.
