V8 Ranch Sweeps the Premier Gray Female Category for 2020-2021 Premier Show Awards

Miss V8 62/9 Named Premier Gray Show Female of the Year

Jim Williams isn’t just famous for his accomplishments as a Brahman breeder and judge, he’s also known for his insistence that “the magic is in the cows.”  His words proved to be true once again, when V8 gray Brahman females swept the top spots at the ABBA 2020-2021 Premier Show Animals of the Year Awards. These awards recognize individual animals (in Red Bull, Red Female, Gray Bull and Gray Female categories) that excel in ABBA-approved shows during an annual season.

1st Place 2020-2021 Premier Gray Female of the Year

The 2020-2021 show season’s top point leader, bred and shown by V8, was Miss V8 62/9. Her dam, Miss V8 293/8 was a National Champion, and her grandam, +Miss V8 805/6, is the dam of the legendary Mr. V8 146/8 “Sloan.” In addition, three other V8-bred females claimed the 2nd through 4th spots for the year.

Miss V8 62/9 was a consistent winner on the show circuit throughout the 2020-2021 show season, which began in the fall at the Kickoff Classic in Bryan and concluded in late spring with the Okie Extravaganza Show. Undefeated in her class this season, Miss V8 62/9’s biggest wins came at the South Texas State Fair and the ABBA Winter Classic, where she was Grand Champion. She was Reserve Grand Champion at the ABBA New Year’s Bash. In addition, she won her division at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes, Texas, the Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City, and the Washington County Fair. In total, she earned 102 points for the year, securing the 2021 ABBA Premier Gray Show Female of the Year title. She is now safe-in-calf to (=)Mr. V8 332/4, who was selected as the sire due to his calving ease traits and high milk production.

Jim Williams’ Remarks on Miss V8 62/9:

“Miss V8 62/9 is a very high-volumed heifer with beautiful dark pigment and outstanding hump placement. She has lots of depth and spring of rib. 62/9 is just a very easy-fleshing, good-doing-type female with a world of femininity and breed character.”

2nd Place 2020-2021 Premier Gray Female of the Year

Following close behind in 2nd place is another female from the V8 show string, Miss V8 203/9 “Dreamgirl.” Sired by +Mr. V8 380/6 and out of Miss V8 499/7, a daughter of El Rey from the Miss V8 539/6 cow family, “Dreamgirl” was the 2020 National Champion Female. She also holds the Grand Champion title from the Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City and was the Reserve Grand Champion at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and the ABBA Winter Classic.  A standout since birth, one half-interest in Miss V8 203/9 “Dreamgirl” sold to GKB Cattle as the high-selling lot in our Made for Magic sale. She earned 91 points for the year.

Jim Williams’ Remarks on Miss V8 203/9, “Dreamgirl”:

“Dreamgirl is probably one of the thickest, heaviest muscled heifers we’ve ever raised at the ranch: beautiful pigmentation, very thick and heavy boned, level-topped.”

This Yeti daughter out of Miss V8 102/8 represents the Miss V8 906/2 cow family at V8. She was the Reserve Grand Champion at Cattlemen’s Congress, placing just behind Dreamgirl. Consistently “in the hunt,” she was a division winner at The International, the Dixie National, Washington County Fair, and the Louisiana Sugar Classic, earning 66 points total for the year.

Jim Williams’ Remarks on Miss V8 208/9

“We couldn’t be happier for Tom and Suzanne of Razorback Farm for all the winning that 208/9 has done. She is an extremely long-bodied, heavy-muscled female and she’s just a dominant heifer in her class and division.”
